Why? Because quite honestly I feel very greatful to the technology which allows people to keep in close contact when being held apart by physical distance. I happen to have friends spread across the globe; some of whom I actually got in contact with to begin with; by using internet. Also the most important person in my life lives on another continent and sometimes we cant meet for a long time, and the ability to video chat, hear each others voices, see each other, and discuss anything with each other, is a great comfort during those times we are apart.
One of the friends I have from another country, happen to be one of my best friends, but we have have actually never met face to face in real life!! Can you believe that? Some people would judge me because I just admitted that one of my closest friends is a person I met online and whom I never met in real life, but I wanted to share my experiences with you all, because I happen to know there are many people out there with the same experiences as me.
However for whatever reason, having online friends has been labelled this huge taboo thing to have, something to be so ashamed of and something to not talk loudly about. People would say things like "Hes not a real friend if you havent met him in person" or "You actually dont know who she is if you havent met face to face", and I think that is so stupid. Fake friendships can happen between two people who even live in the same apartment it is not reserved for people you know online. Of course you have to be careful about giving your personal information to people online. You should always be sceptical and video chatting with the person is a good idea to be sure the person is the age and gender he or she claims to be. But spending your time together just talking, sharing ideas and opinions and discussing life, can in many ways let you know someone on a deeper level, than if you spend time with them in person, doing different activities together.
Sometimes youll meet people online who you would want to spend time with in real life as well, but other times its just that you want someone to talk to besides the people you see every day. Whatever the reason or purpose is, dont be scared or embarrassed about talking to people online, as long as you use common sense and dont put yourself in a situation where you could get hurt.
I hope you all will have an amazing day wherever you are, if you are in a country or in cyber space! <3
